One platform. Voice, messaging, AI, and channel hierarchy.
Nexus is a multi-tenant Class 4/5 softswitch with omnichannel customer experience — built by an operator who needed a better platform. Used in production by VoIP International. Licensed to carriers, ITSPs, and white-label partners.
The four pillars
Voice, messaging, AI, and channel hierarchy — on one stack.
Each pillar stands alone if you need it to. Together they replace the three or four separate platforms most operators run today.
Voice
Class 4/5 softswitch with full PSTN connectivity, codec negotiation, and emergency calling baked into the platform.
- SIP registrar, trunking, and BYOC support
- E911 with Ray Baum's Act compliance
- Fax, recording, voicemail to email
- Time conditions and call routing
Messaging
Business SMS and MMS with reasonable-use policies and group messaging support.
- SMS and MMS in and out
- Group and broadcast messaging
- Campaign tooling for marketing-grade volume
- Integration with CDR and customer records
AI
AI Receptionist as an over-the-top product, deployable on Nexus or alongside any other phone system.
- Deepgram speech-to-text
- Claude for reasoning and routing
- ElevenLabs for natural voice
- Blended cost approximately $0.04 per minute
Channel hierarchy
Multi-tenant reseller architecture with role-based access, masquerade for support, and white-label per tenant.
- Seven-role RBAC across the hierarchy
- Tenant-scoped data isolation
- Reseller-of-resellers supported
- Per-tenant branding controls
Architecture overview
The stack.
Nexus runs on a mix of established open-source carrier-grade components and a custom microservice layer in Node.js. Three web portals — admin for VoIP International, tenant for licensees and white-labels, agent for end users.
Structurally different
NetSapiens-style hierarchy. PortaOne-style separation. Neither set of constraints.
We learned what worked from both platforms and rebuilt the stack to capture both without inheriting the licensing or support trade-offs of either.
Multi-tenant hierarchy and reseller-of-reseller support
The strongest part of NetSapiens is the channel architecture. We kept the model — seven-role RBAC, masquerade, scoped admin views. We dropped the homogeneous-node licensing trap.
Data and binary separation, microservice isolation
PortaOne's data and binary architecture made horizontal scaling and per-service upgrades possible. We kept that approach. We dropped the black-box support model.
Operator-incentivized architecture
The decisions about what to build, what to expose to tenants, and what to charge for are made by the team that uses the platform in production every day. Our incentives and our licensees' incentives are structurally aligned because we are an operator first.
